This Tooth Key was designed by the famous medical French designer "clé de Garengeot" in 1770. It would date to late 1700s to middle 1800s. There are no markings. It is made of steel with nickel plating and checkered Ebony wood handle. These straight Garengeot design Tooth Key is the original that is seldom found. It is pictured and described in the book “Antique Dental Instruments” by Bennion. This treasure has a checkered wood Ebony handle with ornate steel straight extension. Later middle 1800s designs were bent and called DogLeg. This is in near very good condition for 200+ years of age. There is a little nickel plating loss, but over all condition is very good. Size 5.5” long x 4” handle. For 200+ years of age, this rare treasure is in very good condition and will highlight any collection of old dental instruments.
