This is an original quack 1880 Doctor Scott's Electric Brush with seldom found original compass to show the magic in this quack device. Scott claimed his electric brush would prevent graying, arrest hair loss and cure baldness, dandruff, scalp diseases, headaches and neuralgia. To prove it’s amazing power, the compass would twirl to a locking position when placed above the brush. In the late 1800s a variety of electric brushes were offered to cure head, hair ailments and also grow new hair. Doctor Scott's brushes appeared to be high technology as when this original compass was held over the top of brush, the needle would move. Scott simply placed a small-magnetized iron rod embedded inside the brush to show customer the magic. Size is 5" x 2.5" x 2". In the book “Quack Tales of Medical Fraud” by Bob McCoy, page 65, a photo of Dr. Scott’s quack brush is shown and description of quack fraudulent claims. McCoy states that a myriad of electric brush fraud scammers claiming to be Doctors were also found to have fake medical degrees. It is in very good condition. These 125-year-old quack devices are seldom found and will highlight any collection of quack medical items.
