This is a rare 1965 IBM 360 Model 50 Core Memory Board Plane of eight 16 x 16 or 2048 bits.  The models 40 to 50 were announced in 1965 with much smaller core memory, smaller board and much faster than prior models.  The board shown is 2048 bits of core memory (8 sections of 16 x 16 bits).  This board size is 5” x 2” (The model 30 had larger cores and board size was 5” x 6” and smaller meant better).  Another photo shown is microscope view of cores with wires.  Last photo is a complete Plane Stack (Note – only single core memory board is offered).  The first IBM model 360 was instroduced on April 7, 1964 and advertised as the most advanced computer of the time.  Most of these treasures are in museums and are very rare.  This will highlight any collection of 40+ year old computer memorabilia.
