This is a seldom found 1800s Brass Compass in original Oak box hinges wood case. It is marked in script R.M. Brandeis, in Prag (Prague). Richard Mathesius Brandeis produced these from 1820 to 1868 and was considered the finest compass of it’s time. Notice the ruby jewel in center of needle for precision and box joints. It also has a needle lock to prevent damage when traveling. This machine is in very good operation and display condition. The compass measures 4.5” square and wood case measures 5.25” square. Weight is 3 lbs. This is the holy grail of antique compasses. It will highlight any collection of antique compasses.
