Per the Ernst Martin Book “The Calculating Machines” this is a 1908 calculator called “The Calculator” in original wood box with Brass trim and seldom found original stylus that fits in the side of wood base. Calculator is in very good display and operational condition. It functions very well with good 10s carry over. It is stamped “The Calculator; Grand Rapids, Mich.; Patented”. The Lightning Calculator Company beginning in 1908 made these under the name “The Calculator”. There were originally three, 3, models offered and this Wood base model was soon phased out for the Bakelite base stand models. Metal Stylus may not be original, but works very well. This is one of the first calculators made by Grand Rapids Company and seldom found. Later machines were called “The Lightning” and are commonly found. This machine is in beautiful display condition. This original 1908 “The Calculator” is a treasure that belongs in a museum or with serious collector.
